The Butcher's Son is a small, but extremely popular, vegan deli in Berkeley. They offer gourmet, veganized versions of deli items such as hot and cold sandwiches, salads, desserts and brunch. All the faux meats and cheeses are made in house and the line out the door on the weekend attests to how good they taste. Try the Meatball Grinder Sandwich or the Chicken Parm Sandwich.

A 5 star 100% vegan restaurant and cafe. If you like eating sometimes “meaty” and “cheesy” foods, go to the Butcher’s Son! I’ve been there twice in a week, first tried a Grilled Cheese sandwich, which was awesome, but huge and a little heavy. Next time I went for the lighter Caprese Sandwich with pesto, tomatoes and “ham”, it was more balanced and still awesome! I highly recommend this spot. Expect to be full when you go out :)

Food is delicious, albeit a little heavy. Have eaten my way around the menu and never been disappointed. Like many vegan restaurants, it seems they missed the class on service. No one seems to be running the show. Often the line goes very slowly only to have no table to sit at once you finally get your food. Hopefully the seating will be fixed with the new bigger space across the street. Still, a little restaurant management education would go a long way. I hope they take this to heart. Do not miss the cheesecake!

I was blown away by this place. A vegan deli with "meats" and "cheeses"? Whaaaat? My little vegan brain almost exploded! My friend and I shared a "turkey" sub- it was massive. Great place.
